Abstract

The aim of this cross- factorial- correlational study was to validate the "Ochse and Plug Erikson Scale-version of 7 factors" translated into Spanish into a sample of 1600 participants from the city of Bucaramanga (Colombia). Varimax rotation confirmed the seven basic subscales (76 items) and social desirability (17 items), showing consistent with the original instrument (Ochse & Plug, 1986). Item- test correlation was ranged (0.55 <r <0.70), which gives consistency to the instrument. Cronbach's alpha coefficients showed values factor stability (0.71 <α <0.82), indicating adequate consistency of the instrument and test retest test of full scale had a ρxx '= 84 at an interval of 8 weeks. Age discrete periods were obtained by each subscale (8 to 13; 14 to 20; 21 to 38; 39 to 58 years old). T values obtained (3,397 <t <5,379) compared with the expected (t = 3,291) between the variables of gender, educational level and socio-economic status with fg = 1594 and .001 bilateral significance, indicated that these variables do not affect meaning scores of vital dilemmas.
