Proceso de evaluación por pares
The papers that are submitted to be published in Scientific Journal Guillermo de Ockham must be original and unpublished. Those manuscripts which have been published in any other media be it printed or online, will not be accepted. For the selection of papers, original works which are the result of investigation projects will have a priority.
First, the editorial team determines if the manuscript fulfills all the necessary requirements the journal has: pertinence, relevance, organizational structure and a good number of references.
If the paper adapts to the editorial policies of the Journal, it will be sent to revision by peers who will be selected by their affinity in the investigation field of the paper. In this second part, the paper is reviewed by two experts in the field who will provide their feedback about the internal consistency, the pertinence to the field of knowledge, the state of the art, the conceptual and methodological rigor, the critical reflection, and the contribution to the field of knowledge.
The journal determines the ideal revision time to be of 30 work days; if this deadline is not met, the journal will send the paper to a new pair of peers.
The observations of the judges, like the ones of the Editorial Committee, should be taken into consideration by the author, who will perform any required adjustments. These changes and corrections to the manuscript should be realized by the author in no longer than 10 work days. After receiving the modified paper, this will be submitted to a new revision and subsequently the author will be informed about its approval. The committee reserves the right to accept or reject the papers which are to be published in each edition of the journal.
The journal always reserves the right to make corrections to the style, which will always be consulted with author. During the editing process, authors can be consulted by the editor to solve any existing concerns.
It is important to note that the double-blind peer review process allows a continuous improvement in the quality of publications and the feedback for authors. This system seeks to improve the editorial quality of the publications in order to spread this knowledge in a regional, national, and international level. Furthermore, the evolution done by peers experts in the field assures that the editorial policies will be met and the journal guarantees the publishing of articles which have a methodological investigative rigor.

From long ago, in a continuous and sustainable way, The Universidad de San Buenaventura has developed an intellectual publishing policy generated by the members of its academic community. During its first stage, a journal was published for each faculty, 11 in total. The first edition dates back to 1986.
In a second period, which started in 1998, the decision of unifying the journals according to subjects was made and three institutional journals were established: Human Sciences, Management and Development and Engineering. Those previous stages compared to the current ones held an effort and a continuous learning, which constitute our strength to this new step towards excellence. In the second term of 2003 we saw the need, for the qualification of our periodic publishing, to establish a single institutional scientific journal, which we now deliver, and in which we offer to academic and scientific communities nationally and internationally the results of researches done in our institution and ones carried out by other research groups in their institutions. Thus, we decided to contribute in a more demanding and pertinent way to the development of scientific and technological capital of our continent, our country, and our region.
We have named our Journal "Guillermo de Ockham” because he is an inspiring figure for scientific research and practice. In addition, he is an intellectual strongly linked to our institutional identity and the Franciscan tradition which we are proud to be a part of. Guillermo de Ockham, Franciscan, born in Great Britain between 1280 and 1290 and possibly died in Munich, around 1349, studied philosophy and theology in Oxford University, where he received his Bachelors Degree. He started his teaching career explaining the text «Sentences» of Pedro Lombardo, an academic prerequisite to obtain his Master’s degree in theology, degree which he couldn't accomplish due to the opposition of the Chancellor of that University, John Lutterrell, who considered some of his thesis to be heresy, reporting them to Pope John XXII. It is a paradox that one of the most famous thinkers of the Middle Age could not be promoted to principal professor, “inceptor,” and could not obtain the permission to teach in Universities. This is why, his disciples, understanding and with a feeling of irony, granted him the title of “Venerabilis Inceptor.”
Guillermo de Ockham had in his works a criticism of the Platonism and Aristotelianism from a conception of experience and the freedom that do not have their foundation in the ideas a final reality. This criticism distances him from the platonic Augustinian comprehension and from the Thomism comprehension, which was more approximate to, according to his understanding, the Christian view. Assuming this position which distances itself from the platonic idealism and the Aristotelian realism, he contributed to the expansion of the field of logic, distinguishing in the sign term two dimensions: meaning (significatio) referring to the existing thing and supposition (suppositio), which is the representation the term has in a proposition. This second level, derived from the first to Ockham is the true logic and in which the scientific reasoning is developed. The universal term for all individual things collected by their similarities and in it consists all reality. The extension of the field of logic consists and with a relative autonomy presages (and tunes in with) the important development of the philosophy of language and the semiotic in the contemporary way of thinking. Guillermo de Ockham is an author whose ideas have validity in the current theoretical discussion and invites us to a renovated enriching and suggestive dialogue.
Guillermo de Ockham states that all science is made up of propositions: science deals with individual things through terms. This is where a principle of economy prevails-“Ockham’s razor”-which consists of eradicating and avoiding unnecessary suppositions, and aims for a sufficient, dynamic, and concise reasoning. This theoretical research of the scientific reasoning, according to the current comprehension of the disciplines regarding the discourse of the phenomena of the world, takes him to consider that there is not only one essential definition for each entity, in a determined scientia, it is known through the suppositio of terms of the discourses gathered under the scientia. This opens a diversity of definitions in different contexts of discourse. “Ockham’s razor” prunes the superfluous and unnecessary, but pays great attention to the diverse: his economy is that of the liberty of singularities.
The incommensurability as epistemological acknowledgement, also in agreement with the current assessment of plurality and difference, is manifested in this diversity of scientific discourse, in the unyielding multiplicity of individual things and in a moral order, stable but not unchanging, not eternal, plausible of change which lays on the current consensus. We are facing a thinker who opens himself to diversity, and in it settles his present in the field of culture and science.
Likewise, his philosophical reflection and his scientific logic, contextualized in the experience and in the historical political issues of his time, help us overcome one of the current false dilemmas, showing social pertinence as one of the essential notes of academic quality. Guillermo de Ockham explained, among the first to do so and consequently with his recognition in fields of relative autonomy, the need to distinguish the temporary and ecclesiastic jurisdictions, the domains of the emperor and the Pope, the state and the church and produced a great deal of his final work about this problem.
Guillermo de Ockham has been considered as the last of the great thinkers of the Middle Age and as the first of the Modern Era. His way of thinking is a magisterial effort to providing an ingenious answer to religious, political, cultural, and scientific issues in a time of transition and uncertainty, where the vast and old systems of thinking collapsed and the paradigms shook. As history has shown these periods which are not eras of changes but just changes of eras, are privileged moments for dogmas, totalitarianism and tyrannies find a place, guided by those mediocre spirits who choose the easy path of injustice to face the uncertainty of change. He knew how to pose new problems and challenges, that lead to a greater freedom of the spirit, the conscious and of knowledge. With the decisiveness of a franciscan and the evangelical and scientific freedom, he faced all those who posed a threat to a new horizon in the way of thinking and tackled the task of always giving open answers from philosophy, technology, law and politics. For this, he had to help demonstrate the old answers and undertake new paths in the reflection, task which caused him not few reproaches and repercussions, which lead with the stoicism of whom is motivated by an infinite passion for knowledge, that will never be achieved, but it is reason enough to strive for an existence.
For all of this, we honor in having our investigative production under the name of Guillermo de Ockham.
